Fans are accusing Kylie Jenner of selling old lip kit shades at a higher price

Updated

No matter how you feel about the Kardashian-Jenner fam, you still can't deny that Kylie Jenner is on point when it comes to her lip kit biz. We freaked when she launched her massive 2016 Kylie Cosmetics Holiday Collection, since every product in it contained real diamond powder—because why the hell not—and we're here for every launch, which we meticulously track on our live blog. Why? Because her lipsticks truly are good.

But let's take a second and go back to that holiday collection. Some Kylie Cosmetics customers have pointed out that one of the holiday colors, Blitzen, looks very, very similar to Spice, an existing shade in the line. Take a look for yourself.

A few fans caught onto this as early as November, when Kylie Cosmetics reposted a shot of beauty vlogger Christen Dominique wearing Blitzen to the brand's Instagram page. It drew comments like, "Love but what's the difference between spice and blitzen," "Blitzen is identical to spice are you kidding," and "Sooooo what's the difference between spice and blitzen?"

While the colors are similar—if not nearly identical—the problem is in the price tag. Blitzen was included in a limited-edition set of mini lip colors that retailed for $45, while the Spice lip kit is available for $29. Sure, the difference won't make you go broke, but it's still worth raising a brow.

Of course, there's always the chance that the lighting could be messing with our eyes. After all, last year a Reddit user pointed out three Almay lip colors that looked similar, and NYX's Lingerie Liquid Lipstick in Push-Up and Bedtime Flirt are pretty much interchangeable. So this isn't an anomaly in the beauty world. But for so many people to call it out this time, there might just be some credence to the claim.

Considering how quick Kylie's been to respond to fans and make adjustments to faulty products (looking at you Great Brush Kontroversy of 2016), we can't help but feel like this is likely more of a batching/manufacturing issue than it is sketchy business—that said, we've reached out to Kylie Cosmetics for comment and will update this story when we know more.
