She became fiance to her 66-year-old boyfriend Aparecido Dias Jacob, who is 40 years her junior.

"I fell in love with him," the 106-year-old, nicknamed Valda, told Caters News. "I like him a lot. If he dies, I die too."

Valda and her fiance, nicknamed Jaco, met at the Nossa Senhora Fatima retirement home located in southeast Brazil, where they live in separate rooms.

Jaco, whose left arm is paralyzed, moved to the home 19 years ago after being homeless and unemployed.

"I fell in love with Valda from the moment I saw her," Jaco said. "I know she's a little older than me, but that doesn't matter because she makes me really happy."

Project of Dreams, a local volunteer group, approached both Jaco and Valda separately and asked how they could make their dreams come true. Both individually responded they wanted to be married.

But, doctors did not advise for them to be married, since they wouldn't be able to handle living alone, so volunteers came up with an elaborate engagement ceremony at the retirement home for the couple to prove their devotion to one another for the rest of their lives.

"I asked her to marry me and we always believed it would happen but getting engaged is a step forward for us right now," Jaco said.

Neither Valda nor Jaco have previously married, and they have no children. Most of Valda's relatives have died, and Jaco has lost touch with his.

Instead, the couple cut a four-tier cake and celebrated their big day among 150 guests. Valda walked down the aisle accompanied by a volunteer bridesmaid and pageboy, both 12.

"I would have loved to be able to wash Jaco's clothes, cook his meals and look after him like a wife," said Valda, who resembled a blushing bride in her white gown.
