Qatar Airways is setting a record for the longest commercial flight in the world.

According to Reuters, the airline has announced flights to and from Qatar's capital, Doha, to Auckland, New Zealand.

While travelers will spend about 16 hours and 20 minutes on a Boeing 777 on the way to New Zealand, the return flight is set to take a whopping 17 hours and 30 minutes.

The flight tracking site flightradar24 places that as the longest flight in the world, topping the direct Emirates flight from Auckland to Dubai that previously held the record.

However, the airline shouldn't get too used to the title because Singapore Airlines is said to be gearing up to resume non-stop flights to New York which would take roughly 19 hours.
