This is why snakes keep showing up in your dreams

Dreams: They're weird, sometimes freaky and can be incredibly puzzling for the dreamer.

But if you're one of the few who is able to recall dreams the next morning, consider yourself lucky. Psychologists agree that there's a lot you can learn about yourself just from these nighttime stories.

Snakes are one of the most reoccurring symbols in our dreams. While their presence may seem serendipitous or altogether quite menacing, snakes can offer a lot of clarity about our daily lives.

Even though we're taught that snakes usually signify something dark and evil, that's not usually the case for dreams, according to Barbara Condron, author of The Dreamer's Dictionary. Instead, snakes in our dreams can be seen as a good sign, an indication of the dreamer's work ethic and self-awareness. The reptiles "represent the dreamer's creative urge toward wisdom," she said to The Huffington Post.

Snakes are more likely to show up in the dreams of those who are creative and have developed a deep "consciousness"-- artists, writers and yogis are "most likely" to report such imagery. Furthermore, snakes usually represent one's creative accomplishments from the previous day, whether in spiritual or mental form.

However, the only cause for concern is if the snake is poisonous, as may signify "a fear of what may be left behind," Condron said to The Huffington Post.

So, next time you wake up with the vague memory of a snake, don't freak out! It just means you're quite in tune with your creative self.
