Runway to red carpet: Golden Globes dresses then and now

The Golden Globes are the official kick-off of awards season, and stars from television and film come out in full force to fill the red carpet with incredible style. But while some of what we'll see the stars wear will be custom pieces created just for them, many of the stunning gowns will be chosen from the runways -- dresses we first saw glide past us during Fashion Week.

And there's nothing quite like seeing those gowns come to life, and seeing how celebrities choose to style them.

We scoured the Golden Globes red carpet for some of our favorite looks, and then found them on the runway as well. You won't believe how different some of them look when you transform it from high fashion to Hollywood glamour.

For the runway show the model wore her hair down, while Lily chose to wear it up (probably to better show off the neckline). Which do you like better?

Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen.

The major difference here? Nicole added an underlay! As you can see, the model is wearing the dress totally sheer, while Kidman chose to cover up a bit more. It also seems that Nicole may have removed some of the volume from the bottom train.

There aren't many differences between the styling of this one, other than Mandy's soft waves, and we think it was flawless either way.

Tracee Ellis Ross in Zuhair Murad Couture.

Tracee rocked this dress, but she chose to wear it without the belt, and it seems to be a touch shorter than it was on the model. Probably making it easier to walk in!

Chrissy's curves made this dress even more gorgeous than it was on the runway, and it seems she also added a lining underneath to cover up the sheer-ness.

The major difference here is that necklace! But we love how Jessica styled it -- keep it simple, and let that plunging neckline do all the talking.

Possibly another underlay added for Drew's version of this dress, which seems quite sheer on the runway. But gorgeous either way.

Anna chose a different belt for her version of the dress, and while we understand the desire to keep it all in the same color family, we're kinda obsessed with the rope belt used on the runway.
