If you're not familiar withe Elf on the Shelf, it is one of Santa's "scouts" that parents put in various places around their home during the holidays. The purpose is that the Elf can see who's being naughty or nice and "reporting back to him at the North Pole nightly."
Sometimes, however, this concept of Santa's spy may backfire -- and one mom is living proof.
"Miles woke up before me and went to the bathroom and apparently got scared ... that he was going to be in so much trouble that he needed to cover his tracks," Heinrich wrote.
"He gets a magic marker, black to be exact and draws squiggly lines all over my bathroom walls," she continued. "Then writes a note with the said marker saying, 'You are ugly Lynn' and then the mastermind puts the marker on the elf."
Heinrich's son Miles tried to blame the elf for what Heinrich herself did! "I mean how can I yell at him without telling him I know he did it because I did the shaving cream," she said.
Thankfully, she was able to wipe the marker off the wall and did not need paint.
Heinrich's cautionary tale went viral, garnering thousands of shares.
