The FDA is getting ready to tackle one of life's biggest unanswered questions. Is Nutella a spread or a dessert topping?
The Food and Drug Administration could be reducing Nutella's serving size from two tablespoons to one.
Why? Because Nutella wants to be like jam and honey!
Ferrero, the makers of Nutella, have been petitioning the change to one tablespoon since 2014.
The Italian company considers its product a spread and wants to have the same serving size as the products they claim to replace, in order to not confuse customers when being compared amongst other spreads.
This could mean fat and calories on the label will be cut in half. On the label, not on our bodies.
Ferrero claims that back in 1991 Americans consumed 8 percent of Nutella on bread and 27% on ice cream. In 2012 only 2% drizzled it on ice cream and 74 percent used it as a spread.
