This seemingly innocent 'candy' may ruin a child's Halloween

Now's the type of year when adults are picking up candy to give trick-or-treaters. Most hope to make the children in the neighborhood happy; one man, however, has a more deceitful plan.

Journalist Mark Sparrow Tweeted a joke that many have taken issue with:

"It'll soon be Halloween so time to prepare some yummy treats for the neighborhood kids," he said. This sounds innocent enough, but then suggests this: "Try dipping Brussel sprouts in chocolate for them."

The Tweet was shared thousands of times on the social media site.

Some were appalled by the thought, and were quick to voice their opinions:

Sparrow was quick to defend himself, saying it was a joke:

He even started calling the event "#sproutgate."

Hopefully, no one decides to take this suggestion seriously.
