Yawning may reveal how smart you are

Yawning can be interesting.

Most of the time, if someone is yawning at the fullest extent, it may cause you to look at them like they're devolving right before your eyes.

However, the action may be proving the exact opposite.

Biologists led by a professor from SUNY Oneonta are saying that there may be a connection between intelligence and the length of yawning.

Feeling sleepy? So are these cuties:

The researchers looked at 24 different species of animals.

They looked at smaller creatures like rabbits, mice, rats and foxes. Then they considered bigger animals like camels, elephants, gorillas and walruses. Finally, of course, they looked at humans.

The study found that smaller animals have much shorter yawns than bigger creatures like elephants. The biggest yawns were found to be humans.

Researchers concluded that brain size and complexity are the reasons why humans yawn 50 percent more in length than the next closest animal, which is the elephant.

They also added that the reason we yawn is to cool the brain. The bigger the brains, the bigger the yawns.

Then again, we may just be yawning to prove we don't actually like the movie we're watching.
