Couple celebrates 77th anniversary, 100th birthdays together

Vera and John Peterson have been together for 77 years as of Wednesday, and that's certainly a reason to celebrate.

What makes the milestone even better, though, is that they are now both 100 years old.

"I met this tall, handsome guy and you know, it took a while," Vera told ABC News.

"It has been wonderful. I'm not saying that everything was all roses. There was a few thorns as always, and I think everyone has that."

She said that she knows that nothing can be perfect, and their relationship involves a lot of give and take.

In case you haven't done the math in your head, the Petersons were married on Sept. 28, 1939.

Together, Vera and John have 7 children, 18 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Randall Peterson, their eldest child, told ABC News that his father was a farmer for most of his life before becoming a carpenter, and his mother was a stay-at-home mom who later worked at a nursing home.
