How to wear fall's trickiest fashion trend
There are some silhouettes I just don't want to see the back of – the cold shoulder trend being one of them.
There is something so understatedly elegant about a bare shoulder. A bronzed décolleté will forever be a part of the body which can be shown off without freezing or looking too risqué.
Much though some of my summer wardrobe items require packing away for Autumn/Winter (bye denim shorts) the cold shoulder look is one which I am holding on to.
If you too are keen to keep the cold shoulder going, I've styled up the trend two ways – dressing it up and dressing it down for the cooler seasons.
Off The Shoulder Top: Anthropologie | Flare Jeans: FRAME Clutch Bag: Karen Millen (Last Season – Fun For Autumn) | Necklace: Lulu Frost (Last Season – Similar) Bangle: Nadia Rabosio (Past Season – Similar) | Lip Colour: Collection Cosmetics in 'Mulberry'
For me, the transition from a summer Bardot top in to a cooler-weather incarnation is all about the fabric and colour. Whereas I would have worn a white lace Bardot top in the heat, now I am on the lookout for luxurious tactile fabrics like velvet and silk.
I spotted this beautiful jewel-hued off the shoulder top in Anthropologie right at the end of the summer. I couldn't wait for it to get a little cooler and try it on.
For me, I want to feel warm and elegant when dressing up in the cold months. In order to counterbalance the Bardot silhouette up top, I like to wear a longline skirt or trousers. Right now my flare jeans are on rotation – you can read about how to style up your flares here. It took me so long to find a pair I really loved – now I'm hooked!
Another easy Autumn style update I've made is darkening my beauty look – I've loved unearthing my berry-coloured lipsticks and nail polish. I've been using the Collection Cosmetics Velvet Kiss Moisturising Lip Cream in 'Mulberry' recently and I absolutely adore the colour! The formula is quite matte so I always use a little lip balm first – for £2.99 it's a beauty purchase well worth making this season.

Dressing Down Off The Shoulder For Autumn
You guys – this dress. Annoyingly I can't link to it as it's not available online, but if you have a good Primark near you – go! I spotted this little cold shoulder dress when I was in my local store, and immediately ran it to the till.
Luckily the elements I love about this dress – namely the darker print, and the cold shoulder silhouette are qualities shared by other gorgeous pieces on the high street right now.
For daytime a sweet little cold shoulder dress works really well over skinny jeans or leather leggings. When I'm just pottering about I'll often wear my old converse or little black ankle boots.
