Many grandparents celebrate when their grandchildren go to college, and for Melanie Salazar's family, the tradition was no different.

They just had a little something extra to celebrate.

Salazar's grandfather is going to college, too.

The 18-year-old recently tweeted that her 82-year-old grandfather, Rene Neira, would be joining her at Palo Alto College in Texas.

"Honestly to me it feels normal that I'm going to school with my grandpa," she told ABC News. "I look at my grandpa and I'm proud of him. This is a normal thing. It feels great and I'm very proud of him."

In case you were wondering, Neira is taking classes to earn an associate's degree in economics, while Salazar is majoring in liberal arts.

Salazar added that she doesn't want to take credit for the story.

"It's not my story. It's all my grandpa's story. I just so happen to have social media," she said. "It's amazing that it just took off and people are inspired by this and motivated, more importantly, to get their education."

She told ABC News that he has definitely motivated her.
