We all know that playing with a concussion isn't the best idea, but just how much damage does it actually do?

A new study of head trauma published in Pediatrics studied the neurological symptoms of 69 high school athletes from sports like football, ice hockey, field hockey, volleyball, soccer, basketball, wrestling and rugby.

The study suggests that leaving the game as soon as head trauma occurs is the best course of action. Those athletes that continued to play saw their recovery times double.

The study blames a culture that encourages kids to play through pain. However, they acknowledged that there may be a lot on the line for a young athlete, such as a small window of opportunity for scholarships.

The goal is to help doctors stress the importance of brain injuries, because no matter how important high school sports may seem, it's crazy that we need to be reminded of how important our brains are!
