Unlikely best friends have a 6 decade age gap
Age is truly just a number.
Gemma Louise Donhou, 28, befriended Edna, 91, a widow, after meeting at a bus stop in England and hearing Edna's story.
Donhou shared the tale of how the unlikely friendship came to be on Facebook.
"This is my new mate Edna 👩🏼👵🏻 I met her at the bus stop after work," Donhou wrote on Facebook. "We started talking and she told me how she was just going into town for something to do because she was lonely in the house by herself after her husband of 55 years had passed away."
Donhou felt for Edna, and since the two hit it off, Donhou asked Edna for her phone number.
"It broke my heart thinking of this cute little old lady all alone with no one to talk to so I asked for her number so I could come visit her for a cup of tea ☕️," Donhou posted.
When the two met up, Donhou couldn't resist capturing the sweet moment with a photo. "[S]he's 91 and just took her first selfie," Donhou added.
Mashable spoke to Donhou about her sweet post, and it turns out Edna has been loving the response.
"I told her she's famous on the Internet and people all over the world have seen our photo and she loved it!" Donhou wrote to Mashable.
Their friendship is going strong far beyond the Facebook post, which also went viral via Love What Matters. The two have plans to meet up again soon.
"Yes, me and Edna are planning to see each other again for tea and also I'm going to take her out for lunch soon," Gemma told Mashable.
Donhou is originally from Perth, Australia, and she has been traveling the world for the past year. She currently works at a bar on the beach in Perranporth, a small resort town in Cornwall, England.
Hopefully Donhou's next Facebook post is a photo of her and Edna getting their tan on at the beach.
