The ultimate hack you need for cooking steak

If you're anything like me, you love to cook, but get intimidated by recipes that seem overly complicated.

Don't get me wrong, I can put together all of the basics — I take special pride in my own take on this one-pot pasta meal — it's just anything too involved and Julia Child-worthy that makes me a little bit nervous.

Still, I'm always working on conquering my fears and experimenting with new recipes that might seem a bit overwhelming at first glance.

The latest challenge has been learning how to cook steak properly, which is nerve-racking for anyone who worries about undercooking raw food.

Fortunately, there's an old-fashioned trick that takes a lot of the mystery out of the process, and requires no special tools.

In fact, your own two hands are all you need to make sure your steak is prepared perfectly every time, with a test that home cooks have been using for years to test the doneness of steak.

To pull it off, just make an "OK" symbol with your left hand, and poke the base of your thumb. Now watch the video below to learn what that can tell you about your food, and how it can be adapted for different levels of doneness.

And if you love this deceptively simple and oh-so clever way of checking your meat, make sure to SHARE this awesome idea with friends and family who also get nervous about preparing raw food at home!
