A campaign called Rethink Your Asian Drink has been launched to bring attention to the often unhealthy contents of a popular beverage—boba tea.

Also called bubble tea, it typically consists of tea with milk, sweeteners, flavorings, and balls of chewy tapioca.

But the Asian and Pacific Islander Obesity Prevention Alliance, or APIOPA, warns that it often contains high levels of sugar.

In fact, a KABC news story about the tea states that a "12-ounce serving of boba can contain about 90 grams of sugar, 7 grams of fat and 490 calories."

An infographic on the campaign's website shows that some varieties can pack even more of the sweet stuff. For example, a Thai tea shake with boba contains an astounding 135 grams of sugar.

The American Heart Association's maximum recommended daily amount for added sugar intake is 37.5 grams for men and 25 grams for women.
