5 anti-aging tips to steal from the guys

5 anti-aging tips to steal from the guys

By: The Beauty Experts at L'Oréal Paris

All too often we hear about men sneaking into women's makeup bags to snag a five-blade razor, use a dab of eye cream or snatch a spare lip balm. We've been onto the guys for a while now, but what about when the "borrowing" goes the other way? Is it worth taking a page from his grooming book?

If the pages cover anti-aging tips, then we think so. Here, we've rounded up five pointers (including a product or two) it's totally OK to steal from the guys.

1. Exfoliate Regularly

Do men have their peels, polishes and brightening treatments at the ready? Would they even know what you're talking about if you asked about their exfoliation routine? Probably not. But what many men do on the regular is shave their faces, and -- whether they're aware or not -- they're physically exfoliating in the process. By targeting all that stubble, they're also sloughing off dead skin cells, preventing clogged pores and unwittingly minimizing wrinkles.

So should you reach for his razor? Not necessarily. You just need to exfoliate on a regular basis. Try a daily cleanser with glycolic acid or gentle micro pearls and you can avoid any nicks or cuts (or five o'clock shadow).

2. Use Mustache Wax

But not in the way you think. Unruly eyebrows can make eyes look smaller and lids appear droopy. Get an instant lift by cleaning up your brows -- a combination of tweezing and filling in any sparse areas with brow pencil or a plumping tint is a good start. Then set any additional strays in place with a clear mustache wax.

3. Go Au Naturel

With your makeup, that is. Most men don't wear makeup. Maybe it's because they've figured out that piling on too much foundation, bronzer and blush can actually age you. Instead, keep your look minimal with a tinted moisturizer and lusciously long lashes.

4. Treat Your Locks

If there's one cosmetic concern that men have no qualms about obsessing over, it's their hairline. We wouldn't suggest that you also stress over every last follicle, but if you'd like to thicken things up, don't be afraid to reach for a specialty shampoo or treatment. And if you've got some pesky grays peeking through between color appointments, try a DIY root cover-up to nip them in the bud.

5. Wear a Hat

Yes, your guy may just be supporting his favorite team (or hiding the fact that he hasn't showered), but that cap is an anti-aging device in disguise. Not only will a hat with a brim protect your face and scalp against sunburn, in the long run it'll also help prevent wrinkles and age spots.
