Many people see raccoons as tiny bandits who rummage through garbage -- but a couple in Arkansas has made one a member of their family.

Brittany Cusanek, 29, and her fiancé, Jeremey Brown, 37, suspected for a while that some sort of critter and its babies were living in their attic.

They weren't overly concerned until the day they began to hear whimpering and crying.

"We went through our day and then I was doing homework and I heard a sound in the wall near me that sounded like a baby," Cusanek told ABC News.

The couple tore a hole in their wall and found a sad baby raccoon who had gotten stuck there, all alone.

They decided to name the little guy Leroy Brown and care for him.

"He had barely opened his eyes when we got him," Cusanek told InsideEdition.com. "He could barely walk."

Luckily, according to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, it is perfectly legal to own a raccoon in the state.

So Leroy quickly became a beloved member of the family, and joined the couple and their pup on road trips and outings to local parks.

On the recommendation of a local vet, Leroy's parents feed him fruits and nuts to keep him healthy, and they have even started to potty train him.

"It's fun. It's different. It's like having a cat, a dog and a monkey all in the same package," Brown told KFSM.
