When you get to a certain level of social media fame, influencers may not realize just how extensive their fan base really is. After all, the numbers they see daily -- from followers to subscribers to video views -- all come from real people. Sometimes the only way to truly understand just how tangible all that data really is, is to meet those fans in real life. For Amanda Steele, the viral beauty YouTuber who has over 2.8 million subscribers, getting the opportunity to forge a personal relationship with her fans offline is one of the most surreal moments in her career.

As she notes, "It's the craziest experience...Seeing that there's that many people out there who know me, care about the things that I say, and really value our relationship makes me happy." For her, those moments make her entire job worthwhile.

We recently spoke with the young beauty guru to talk about how she describes the relationship between her and her fans, what its like meeting them person, and more!

What was running through your mind when you first hit 1 million subscribers?
I thought it was crazy! There was a lot of build up until I hit a million; it was never like I woke up and had 1 million subscribers. But it was really special to me because I remember on my first post, someone commented on my video and I went on their channel and thanked them so much for commenting on my video. So the fact that a million people clicked subscribe and wanted to see more from me meant so much. I never tried to get to that point, it was never a goal I had. But to see that big number really put things in perspective.

You talked about your raw relationship with your fans. What is it like for you when you get the chance to meet them in person?
It's the craziest experience! I always forget there are faces behind the likes and comments I get. I just left VidCon and it was the best experience meeting them at my meet up. Seeing that there's that many people out there who know me, care about the things that I say, and really value our relationship makes me happy. And all the girls who came up to me were so cute too! This really great to see a face behind the numbers.

What has been your favorite fan moment so far?
I went to Playlist Live Orlando one year, and I just had the best time of my life. That was the first time I saw mass amounts of subscribers in one place. I would walk around and meet so many people and it was so overwhelming. It made me so happy to see that many people. It was the first time I really saw a big group of people at once who recognized me and said they watched my videos. That was a smack in the face of, "Woah, this is real!"

How do you conceptualize your videos and create them from start to finish?
I usually like to do video concepts around what's happening in my life. So I did a Fourth of July makeup tutorial because it made sense because people need help with that or wanted inspiration. I always do my monthly favorites or hauls when I go shopping. It basically aligns with the stuff that I naturally want to talk about with my friends.

What's the one thing people don't necessarily see when they watch your YouTube videos?
There's a lot of production that goes into it. When I first started it was easy. I just pulled out my laptop and talked about whatever I wanted for one cut. But now, there's very high expectations about having colorful videos and nice music. Which is kind of stressful because there's a lot of pressure since someone out there is going to do something that's a tiny bit better than your video. But you need to realize that you have to make videos that you're passionate about and mean a lot to you. That's more important than trying to compare yourself to other YouTubers.
