One shirt dress two ways for summer vacation
By: Mae Amor
I will be headed away for a beach weekend soon so I'm starting to plan what to pack and this look (actually two looks) is on the short list. I think a simple shirt dress is one of the most versatile pieces and a personal summer vacation favorite because it really can be worn several ways.
Look 1: Shirt Dress
For the first look, I wanted to do something really bananas and wear the shirt dress as intended...as a dress. I paired the look with classic summer pieces like a natural nude cross body from J.Crew, my favorite tan/nude wedges from Tory Burch, and a boater (also from J.Crew).
For the second look, I did one of my favorite ways to transform a shirt dress – tie it up like a shirt. I love that such a simple step can easily transform a summer dress into a blouse. Even with the exact same accessories, this one little change gives you two looks with the same pieces.
When I'm packing for a vacation, I like to pick pieces that I can wear more than one way so that I don't find myself changing ten times a day (trust me, I'm prone to do this). This shirt dress will take me from brunch to a day of exploring and, to take the shirt dress one step further, I'll even be wearing it as a swimsuit cover up. This particular shirt dress looks adorable over a black bandeau and high-waisted bottom bikini combo. The shirt is lightweight enough that it's not hot and sticky and it is a great layer to cover up and protect from the sun.
