Why Kerry Washington sees the red carpet as just another role
Kerry Washington is Glamour's cover star for October 2013, and the Scandal actress discussed her career, love of fashion, and her decidedly secret love life with the magazine's editor-in-chief Cindi Leive. Aside from the fact that Kerry recently got married without anyone knowing (to 49ers cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, whom none of her fans even knew she was dating!) we can't get enough of how she approaches the red carpet: as another role.
"I was like, 'I'm missing a really important tool. If I am the CEO of the Kerry Washington Corporation, my marketing department is really lax.' So I sort of developed a new character: Red-Carpet Kerry," she told Glamour. And like any good actor, she researched the role. After all of her "library hours on fashion," she fell in love with it. Clearly she has aced the test -- because she was just named to Vanity Fair's International Best Dressed List!
When it comes to fashion on her hit show Scandal, she says it's a combination of her own ideas and those of the show's costume designer, Lyn Paolo. And the influence of the show is widely felt, as Leive said "I've heard that people have been walking into Prada and asking for the Olivia Pope purse," to which Kerry replied: "And Movado for the Olivia Pope watch."
The October issue of Glamour is available on newsstands September 10th.
