This month, powerhouse politician Rep. Elijah Cummings passed away at the age of 68.

Rep. Cummings was extremely active in politics. In Baltimore, the representative served in the U.S House of Representatives for Maryland's seventh congressional district from 1996 until his untimely passing. Before becoming a member of Congress, Rep. Cummings served 14 terms in the Maryland House of Delegates and made history as the first African American in the state to be named Speaker Pro Tempore.

Throughout the decades he held the public office, Rep. Cummings was described as a force to be reckoned with. Before passing, Cummings helped lead the impeachment inquiry against President Trump.
