Though a high-status political job may seem to equate to substantial capital and an influx of income, it isn't necessarily true -- but thanks to smart endorsements, engagements and business ventures, Joe Biden and his wife have amassed quite the fortune.

Biden's 36-year long career in the senate started with an annual salary of $42,500 and ended with an annual salary of $169,300, according to Forbes.

He was given a 30 percent raise when he was elected as Vice President alongside Jill's income as an English professor and other royalties and rights payments for book deals.

When Biden's term as Vice President ended in 2009, his net worth was estimated to be around $1.5 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
