Brooklyn-based designer Romeo Hunte is reinventing what the coat means to the modern woman with one word: 'Power'

Gone are the days of the coat being a simple outfit afterthought or accessory-level garment — in Romeo Hunte’s world, the coat is the main course.

A mix of street and high-fashion, you never know what’s going to come next from the designer -- especially down the runway.

This NYFW, it happened to be a whole lot of fringe, color, graffiti and even puppies — Yes, the kind that bark!

Hunte, who's known for his ability and mission to further empower what he already perceives as the powerful woman, put out a collection that plays with both masculine and feminine elements, regardless of whether or not the pieces are intended for menswear or womenswear:

“I started off with menswear, that’s what I always do … I feminized the silhouettes to fit the woman and make her powerful. I look at today’s woman — the coat, it’s a reflection of how you’re feeling each day. It means a lot to me because I’m known for mostly outerwear … I think it’s very flexible. You can wear a coat as a dress, you can wear one of my coats every day, but it’s all about your lifestyle and where you’re going. I wanted to suit the everyday customer, but still the woman that’s going somewhere, the woman that wants these pieces to go from day to night, the woman that’s powerful, but she’s very street chic.”

Though Hunte’s FW19 collection isn’t too much of a departure from his traditional attention-demanding vintage vibe with a clear dedication to out-of-the-box silhouettes, bright colors and versatility in silhouettes, customers can expect this season’s pieces to be the tried and true Rome Hunte, just elevated:

“This season was very street glam — you’ll see a lot of fringe, you’ll see a lot of great accessories, You’ll see … the same attitude but just a little bit more mature, the woman’s feeling herself right now.

I was a little over the street-sporty vibe with heels, so I wanted to dress the woman up this season. You’re going to see Romeo Hunte girly, glam, very posh.”

With no shortage of sexy shapes and embellishments, women everywhere will be throwing their dresses to the wayside in favor of a coat for their next GNO.

Fans of Hunte can expect the somewhat expected yet completely fascinating from the designer this Fall/Winter season -- Highlights including silky, puffy ponchos (which the designer paired with slinky knee-high boots) in belted, figure flattering silhouettes for women, and an attention-grabbing, royal purple floor-length fur coat for men meant to be worn open (and per Hunte's vision, with no shirt underneath!)

But if there’s one thing Hunte wants you to remember, it’s to admire the big picture, but pay close attention to every element at play:

“Each piece, look out for every detail — detail, detail, detail!”
