Report: Pregnant woman finds dead rat in soup at popular restaurant chain
A pregnant woman discovered a dead rat in her soup and now the restaurant chain has lost $190 million in market value.
The BBC reports that a woman and her husband in China were eating at the popular restaurant chain Xiabu Xiabu when she found a rat in her hot pot.
Her husband alerted staff, and the couple was reportedly offered money for an abortion if the meal had affected the baby’s health.
After going to the hospital to check the health of the unborn child, the restaurant allegedly offered $728 dollars in compensation, according to the South China Morning Post.
Health officials investigated the restaurant and although finding no rats, did close down the restaurant location for other violations.
Xiabu Xiabu has 759 locations in China and says it will make any necessary improvement to its restaurant.
