Amazon just hiked prices on thousands of everyday households items

Just after Amazon dazzled the public with an Amazon Go expansion and Whole Foods discounts for Prime members, the e-commerce giant quietly made a change to one of its signature Prime services, Prime Pantry. Until this month, Prime Pantry was a perk baked into Amazon Prime subscriptions. For a flat shipping rate of $5.99 per box, members could load up on Amazon’s selection of dry grocery goods and everyday essentials like paper products, household cleaning supplies, office supplies and even pet food.

Fortunately, there are some brilliantly slick ways to get Amazon Prime for free.

Amazon still offers the same products but tacked on an extra $2 to each order. That means Prime members will pay an additional $7.99 to Amazon for shipping. If Prime Pantry is a mainstay in your household, you can opt to pay $4.99 per month — on top of your annual Prime membership — to receive unlimited shipping on orders of $40 or more.

Brandless

Coming up on its first anniversary, Brandless effectively cut out the middleman to bring its customers lower prices. You won’t find your favorite brands on the site: The company sells pantry, household, office and beauty products under its own label — Brandless. Everything at Brandless sells for $3 and products are non-GMO, sometimes organic, fair trade, kosher, gluten-free and contain no added sugar. Shipping is free for orders over $39, however, the company offers B.More, an optional membership service for $36 a year that grants members free shipping with no dollar minimum.
