Here’s how much money Roseanne Barr’s tweet cost her

At least $3.25 million: That’s how much money Roseanne Barr stands to lose after the cancellation of her recently revived eponymous TV show.

ABC pulled the plug on the reboot of “Roseanne” Tuesday. The move came after Barr said on Twitter that Valerie Jarrett, a former adviser to President Barack Obama, was the offspring of the Islamist organization Muslim Brotherhood and the movie “Planet of the Apes.”

The cancellation of “Roseanne” came about a week after the airing of the finale of the 10th season, which picked the story line up after the end of the sitcom’s ninth season in 1977. So, the money Barr was paid for her work on season 10, as well as any syndication royalties she might earn off the season, are presumably safe.

But ABC had just announced that it would renew “Roseanne” for an 11th season, which would have comprised 13 episodes.

Variety estimated last year that Barr was earning $250,000 per episode. Multiply that by 13 episodes, and Barr would have earned a total of $3.25 million for her work on season 11.

Note, though, that the $3.25 million figure assumes that Barr would not have received a raise for season 11 — and that ABC would not have renewed the show again. The figure also excludes any income Barr would have made from season 11 syndication royalties.

So, $3.25 million is likely the bare minimum that Barr’s tweet cost her.

Of course, given that Barr has a reported net worth of $80 million, it’s arguably difficult to feel too badly for her pocketbook. Still, an extra $3.25 million would have increased that net worth by about 4 percent.
