Amazon launches premium dog food brand with help of veterinarians

Updated

It seems that there isn’t any remaining market that Amazon has yet to infiltrate or tap into.

The retail giant’s acquisition of Whole Foods has made it a major contender in both the brick-and-mortar and online grocery industry, even creating branded products sold exclusively through the retailers.

But when it comes to food for our favorite furry friends, there seems to be no Amazon-branded or exclusive dog food product -- something surprising for a company that is known for its pet-friendly offices, partnerships with local shelters and pet adoption agencies and a general love of all things that go ‘woof.’

Check out the more than 6,000 registered dogs at Amazon's HQ:

In order to bridge that gap and deliver on that need, Amazon has launched its own premium dog food brand called Wag.

The brand will feature real meat, fish or poultry as the main ingredient in each of its varieties, which are all grain-free.

Current selections include beef & lentil, salmon & lentil, turkey & lentil, chicken & lentil and lamb & lentil with new selections expected to roll out in the next few months.

And since the Amazon name is attached to the food, you can expect it to show up to your doorstep with minimal hassle — all Wag products are eligible for free two-day shipping for Prime Members.

The food is also created alongside veterinarians to make sure that the optimal blend of protein and fat are inside each bag.

Food from a brand you trust for a reasonable price that’s also good for your favorite furry family member? Now that’s something to wag your tail about!
