Walmart's best selling items in every US state post-tax season

As tax season slowly comes to an end, many Americans begin to anxiously await their tax refund. According to research, nearly three-quarters of U.S. filers will receive a refund and as of March 2, the average payout so far was $3,046.

While the average return may not seem large to most, if you spend it at the right retailer, you can save a ton. Major retailers such as Walmart offer deals and discounts that help stretch your money even further.

Last year, customers used their tax refunds to splurge on iPhones, televisions and gaming consoles -- and this year is no different. According to new data obtained from Walmart.com, many of top-selling items in each state are still technology based. There are some outliers, however: North Dakota's top item was a drone and New Jersey shoppers prefer to purchase basketball hoops.
