Toys R Us is reportedly considering closing 100 to 200 US stores, according to Bloomberg.

The toy chain's sales during the critical holiday season have declined 15 percent, compared to last year, Bloomberg reported, citing anonymous sources who were briefed on the matter.

Retailers closing stores in 2017:

Toys R Us spokeswoman Amy von Walter referred to the report as "speculation."

"Final decisions about our real estate portfolio will be done only after careful consideration about the best interests of our business," she said. "Any speculation on that figure is premature and likely to be inaccurate."

Toys R Us filed for bankruptcy in September. If the company closed 200 stores, that would represent about 22% of its total store base in the US.
