Meet Paul, the face of Italian restaurant Catalano's since 1963

Updated

Paul Catalano is a staple in the Scranton, PA community. He's been serving up hoagies and other Italian delicatessens for more than 50 years at his family restaurant, Catalano Importing Co. His father started the business about 93 years ago, and Paul took it over in his early 30s to carry on his family's name and tradition following his dad's passing in 1963.

Catalano's is one of the last surviving small establishments in the area, specializing in Italian food, and most famously, their renowned hoagies. However, it's not just the delicious food that keeps customers coming back -- It's Paul's charm and charisma along with his love of storytelling.

He spends his entire day at the store, handling the public relations work, overseeing operations and his favorite part of all -- talking to customers. And although he suffers from a bad knee, Paul is there every morning at 9AM with a smile on his face.

He contends he has no immediate plans for retirement, but is "considering it." However, his friends and family hold that Paul is here to stay.

Paul's daughter, Penni, claims, "My father will say he wants to retire in the future ... But I do not see that happening!"

Paul's passion and lifelong dedication to running his business is contagious. It's no secret that everyone that's had the pleasure of meeting Paul feels inspired by his energy every day.
