America's major domestic airlines, ranked

Earlier this week, United Airlines faced a PR nightmare when footage of a passenger being forcibly removed from a flight went viral. Soon after the incident, the company's market value plummeted and many experts wondered if the airline could revive itself from the unfortunate mishap.

With the incident and CEO Oscar Munoz's ill-received response looming over the company's reputation, customers have begun to debate if United is the worst airline in America or if this is just a hiccup the company could recover from.

While recent events would leave one to believe United's hay day is coming to an end, a new report released by Wichita State University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University suggests the company hasn't reached rock bottom just yet. In fact, according to their annual Airline Quality Ratings (AQR) report, the airline ranks No. 8 amongst the top 12 major airlines in the United States.

The rating is regarded as one of the most comprehensive airline reports as it takes mishandled baggage, consumer complaints, on-time performance and involuntary denied boardings into consideration.

Take a look at this year's rankings from the worst airline to the best in the slideshow below:
