Here are the best value months to visit 10 of the world's most popular travel destinations

If you've been daydreaming about roaming cobblestone streets in Italy and indulging in a decadent plate of pasta, but can't afford the ticket, fear not. There's now a guide to help you find out exactly when to book your trip to get the best deal on hotel rates.

TripAdvisor, the travel planning and booking site, released its 2017 hotel pricing report, which details the best time for Americans to go to popular destinations worldwide.

The website looked at hotel browsing data to pinpoint the hotspots users searched for most frequently in order to determine the 10 most popular places for travelers. This year, the top 10 most shopped destinations included the United Kingdom, Japan, Italy and Thailand, to name a few.

While it is significantly cheaper to book a hotel in Italy during January, you might find it hard to enjoy that scoop gelato on the Ponte Vecchio in Florence when average temperatures hover around 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

By comparing weather and hotel prices sourced from over 200 sites, TripAdvisor found the months that offer the best combination of temperate climates and low rates.
