16 banks open on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day 2016

Because New Year's Day falls on a Sunday in 2017, the Federal Reserve observes Monday, Jan. 2, as a bank holiday. Since most banks follow the Federal Reserve's holiday schedule, the vast majority of financial institutions are closed on New Year's Day. Many also close on Jan. 2, as well.

New Year's Eve is not a bank holiday, but it is a Saturday this year. Some banks are closed every Saturday, including New Year's Eve, some stay open normal hours and some will open for a shortened period of time. So if you're planning to party on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day, but need to get some banking done first, call ahead.
