This house was once a Windmill -- and the transformation is absolutely stunning

Sometimes the exterior adds enough charm to a house that the interior need not be overdone.

But in the case of what's been dubbed the "Windmill House" in Little Compton, Rhode Island, a quirky and one-of-a-kind exterior combines with a gorgeous art-centric interior to create a masterpiece.

The house's name comes as no surprise after taking one look at its exterior. The turret, shaped like an octagon, used to be a full-on working windmill and served as inspiration for the rest of the architecture of the home.

The 4,623-square-feet of living space boast 10 bedrooms and four bathrooms split between a main house and cottage.

The Tower bedroom, which is located on the third floor of the main house, offers 180-degree views of the ocean and across to Aquidneck island, showing off an incomparable view of the famed Newport mansions.

The property itself is just over an acre, and is surrounded by 150 acres of protected, historic farmland.

Per its listing, The Windmill House's interior seems to have a history just as rich as the interior design itself:

"Sydney Burleigh, a renowned American artist, Little Compton native, and close friend of the Slicer family, added his artistic touches to the interior of the Mill House by incorporating Bas-relief sculptures, inscriptions and terra cotta washes to many of the home's plaster walls. Exposed oak beams combine with the painted plaster walls lending a strong sense of artistic history and architectural detail."

This place truly is the embodiment of idyllic coastal living.

The Windmill House is on the market for $2.4M.
