The most expensive city to have a baby
If you feel like you've been hearing a lot of baby news lately, you're not alone – July and August are the most popular months for childbirth, according to Castlight Health.
Raising a child is a (worthwhile, of course) hefty expense. From diapers to formula to cribs and just about everything you can imagine in between, raising a newborn can drain your accounts dry if you don't have a solid budget in tact.

But one of the most expensive costs of having a newborn is the one that most don't consider—the cost of actually giving birth.
And like most necessary (and expensive) expenses, the cost varies around the country, even from city to city.
So, where is the most expensive place to give birth in the United States?
Thanks to a new study by Castlight Health, we have the (unsurprising) answer.
Due to limited healthcare provider consolidation, prices soared in California, and one city in particular was the most expensive city (based on average price) for both vaginal delivery and Cesarean section: Sacramento.

The study was based on private health insurance claims from this year.
Sacramento ranked No. 1 for the most expensive average price for vaginal delivery at $15,420, while San Francisco ranked No. 1 for the most expensive price recorded for the same procedure at $28,541.
As for Cesarean sections, Sacramento was once again ranked No. 1 for the most expensive average price at around $27,067. The highest price recorded was in Los Angeles at a whopping $43,250.
Los Angeles also had the largest range between highest and lowest price recorded for both vaginal delivery and Cesarean section.
So if you're California dreamin' of expanding your family, you might want to consider budgeting way ahead of time.
