The tech founder revealed his 2016 top picks in his annual summer reading blog post. According to Gates, his recommended reading selection has "a good dose of books with science and math at their core. But there's no science or math to my selection process."

In addition to these subjects, the non-fiction books on his eclectic list cover themes around Japan, economics, and the history of the human race. Gates also points to a favorite science fiction novel thatinspired him to rekindle his sci-fi habit.
He shared that these five books are "simply ones that I loved, made me think in new ways, and kept me up reading long past when I should have gone to sleep."
