United Technologies Wins 3 of 37 Pentagon Defense Contracts Awarded Friday

The Department of Defense announced 37 new defense contracts Friday, worth a combined $2.2 billion in total value. United Technologies subsidiaries won three of them, including:

  • $231.5 million to its Pratt and Whitney division, in the form of an undefinitized contract action for F119 Engine Sustainment work on the F119-PW-100 engines that power the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor stealth fighter jet. Pratt & Whitney will be performing this work through Dec. 31, 2014.
  • $105.3 million to its Sikorsky Aircraft division, in the form of a foreign military sales contract modification that will have Sikorsky modifying eight UH-60M Black Hawk Helicopters to "General Service Configuration" for the Saudi Arabian National Guard. The estimated completion date on this contract is now March 31, 2016.
  • A smallish $18.3 million contract modification for Sikorsky Aerospace Maintenance, exercising an option to have Sikorsky perform additional maintenance work on U.S. Navy "adversary squadrons." (These are training squadrons, composed of pilots flying either foreign-built planes, such as Russian MiGs, or older U.S. planes no longer in active service, flown in a style similar to those flown by foreign air forces.) Sikorsky will be performing this work through December 2014.
