New iPad Mini Retina vs. Nexus 7

Prospective tablet buyers have many choices this holiday season in the mini tablet market. Two of the bigger players in this space are Apple's new iPad mini and Google's Nexus 7. With tablet sales expected to reach all-time highs, what should both tablet buyers and tech investors know?

Eric Bleeker cautions about iPad mini supply chain issues but thinks Apple's ecosystem is a competitive advantage. While there is a rather large price difference between the two units, $170, Apple's ecosystem has been introduced to prospective buyers through other products -- mainly the iPod touch and the iPhone.

Evan Niu weighs in on the Nexus 7. IDC reported respectable sales figures for Asus, the manufacturer of Google's tablet. It appears its $230 price point has allowed Google to acquire market share. However, Apple still provides the best tablet experience with nearly 500 thousand iPad optimized apps -- a number Google falls far short of.

Jamal Carnette cautions investors of initial third-party estimates due to Apple's supply chain constraints.
