Global growth is imperative to the success of industrial metals miners like Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold  and Southern Copper Corp . Unfortunately, the past two years have seen a steep decline in industrial spending due to financial downturns across the globe. Adding to this decrease in demand, capital spending has been aimed at increasing supply. BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto are currently working on water desalination in Chile that should help boost production in the mining-heavy South American nation.
