Life Time Fitness introduces new LifeCafe Healthy Pantry App; review hundreds of thousands of food choices with just a scan
CHANHASSEN, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- You're about to put that box of granola bars in your cart, but should you? With seemingly unlimited food options available every day, consumers have the daunting task of making the right food decisions for themselves and their families. Life Time - The Healthy Way of Life Company (NYSE:LTM) is committed to improving the health of our nation and has introduced its new LifeCafe Healthy Pantry App as an easy and convenient way to simplify healthy eating.
The new app, available for iPhone and Android, helps you spot artificial ingredients and common allergens in many packaged foods and beverages by simply scanning a food item's barcode to see specific information about its ingredients. Unlike many other apps available for download, the Healthy Pantry App allows users to customize profile settings with 16 known food allergies or common food sensitivities such as artificial colors, dairy, gluten, nuts, preservatives and more, to help users see how each ingredient could possibly affect their health. It also features easy-to-understand green, yellow and red symbols for users to quickly understand when an item is generally okay, should be eaten with caution or should be avoided altogether, in accordance with the app's standards. It also provides a list of healthier alternatives to the scanned item.
Operating under the "If it's here, it's healthy" mission, Life Time has made a commitment to its millions of members and the public, promising clean and wholesome eating at all of its 92 LifeCafe locations. The LifeCafe menu features fresh and healthy food items and offers better ingredients - free of trans fats, bleached flours, and artificial flavors, colors, preservatives and sweeteners.
"Our LifeCafe destinations provide an environment where eating right is always on the menu with an oasis of good choices. But outside of our four walls we know making healthy food choices is more difficult," said John Reilly, senior vice president of corporate business. "The LifeCafe Healthy Pantry App has made label reading simple enough to suit even the busiest lifestyles and is one more way that LifeCafe, and Life Time, can help our members and non-members eat with confidence to live a healthier way of life."
The LifeCafe Healthy Pantry App is available in the iTunes App Store and Google Play. Once downloaded, users simply scan a food item's barcode to see specific information about the ingredients. They can also search by product category, including baby food, baking, bread, candy, cereal, chocolate, dairy, frozen food, juice, produce and many other categories. LifeCafe Healthy Pantry App is complimentary for Life Time members and $3.99 for non-members.
