MyFitnessPal Teams Up With Cigna
New Initiative Allows Cigna Coaches and Customers to Track Progress toward Personal Health Goals
BLOOMFIELD, Conn. & SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- MyFitnessPal, the leading free personal health and fitness resource, and global health service company, Cigna (NYS: CI) today announced a new initiative that will combine MyFitnessPal's nutrition, physical activity and weight management resource with Cigna's health coaching programs.
The strategic venture is MyFitnessPal's first formal expansion into the insurance and health care industry.
"The digital health movement is evolving rapidly and it's exciting to see how it's fueling our customers' interest in getting healthy and staying fit. Many are already using MyFitnessPal and are discussing their food and fitness logs when they connect with their coaches," said Jackie Aube, senior vice president, Product Solutions, Cigna. "By integrating new technologies like MyFitnessPal, we're not only creating a more personal relationship with our customers, but helping them reach their goals more quickly and conveniently. This partnership makes the coaching process more rewarding for both customers and coaches."
"We all know that diet and exercise are crucial contributing factors to good health, but often it's hard to put that into practice every day," said Mike Lee, co-founder of MyFitnessPal. "By working with Cigna's Consumer Health Engagement Solutions, we're able to marry our proven tracking tools with their renowned coaching services to help even more people create healthy habits and live healthier lives."
Cigna is committed to helping customers improve their health, well-being and sense of security by supporting each individual with guidance, tools and information designed to make health a fun and interesting part of everyday life. This initiative will give customers the ability to choose to connect their MyFitnessPal accounts with their coach to share their diet and exercise activity. Coaches will be able to view a participating user's progress and provide advice, motivational support and encouragement.
For the initial launch, the Cigna/MyFitnessPal initiative is available on the limited basis to Cigna U.S. clients, with expansion of the program targeted for 2014.
