Use of Cloud-Based Technologies Helps Company Optimize and Scale Its Market-Leading Well-Being Improvement Solutions

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Global well-being improvement leader Healthways (NAS: HWAY) has ranked 13th on this year's InformationWeek500. The annual list, in its 25th year, recognizes the most innovative users of business technology in the country. Healthways has been recognized six years in a row, this year for its work using cloud-based technologies to more flexibly accommodate varying volumes of users taking its well-being survey. The web-based survey measures an individual's overall well-being along five primary elements: purpose, social, financial, community and physical. Data from the Healthways well-being survey powers proprietary predictive models and allows Healthways to deliver meaningful support across diverse populations to improve employee performance and reduce healthcare costs.

Because the survey is usually administered during a company's annual health benefits enrollment period, load times can reach 100 times the average intensity for short durations. A cloud-based approach allows the Company to adjust scale as needed and more cost-effectively while still adhering to healthcare security regulations. Healthways worked with Microsoft to use Windows Azure as the platform for a hybrid public-cloud/on-premises setup, ultimately reducing the average cost of delivering the survey.
