Nuance's Dragon TV Lets People Sit Back and Speak to Surf Channels, Discover Content and Shows

BURLINGTON, Mass. & BEIJING--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Nuance Communications, Inc. (NAS: NUAN) announced at its Nuance Mobile Forum in China that Nuance's Dragon TV is behind the new interactive voice capabilities featured as part of Philips TV's 2013 high-end Smart TVs product lineup. As a result, people can simply sit back and talk to their Philips Smart TV to find shows and content, change channels, search the Web and more. China is one of the first markets to ship Philips' voice-enabled Smart TV experience, and marks Dragon TV's Asian debut with support for Mandarin Chinese.

Philips TV has fully leveraged Nuance's leading Dragon TV's voice recognition to create an intuitive and conversational experience for consumers. By simply speaking to the Philips Smart TV remote, people can gain quick and simple access to the seemingly endless options of movies, shows and features once impossible to successfully access with a standard TV remote. For instance, say "Find movies with Zhang Ziyi," and Dragon TV will access and display the list of available options. And, Dragon TV lets people take advantage of connected TV content with voice-enabled Web search in Mandarin Chinese and English, while also offering bilingual support.

"Intelligent and intuitive experiences are essential as Smart TVs evolve. By integrating Nuance's Dragon TV voice technologies, the new Philips Smart TV product lineup delivers a seamless and convenient way for consumers to control their TV - we see it as the most innovative and intelligent TV experience on the market," said Zhou Yongxiang, director of product planning of Philips TV.

"Voice has quickly become a high-demand interface for Smart TV interactions because of its simplicity - as humans, speaking is as intuitive as it gets," said Daniel Cheng, General Manager of Nuance Greater China region. "And by working with customers such as Philips TV, we're driving a new ecosystem of connected TV experiences that make the digital living room an incredibly compelling space for content and entertainment."
