Regal Entertainment Group Invites "Sharknado" Fans to Tweet Reactions During a Special Event at Regal L.A. LIVE
During innovative show, social media is welcomed inside Regal Cinemas
KNOXVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Regal Entertainment Group (NYS: RGC) , a leading motion picture exhibitor owning and operating the largest theatre circuit in the United States, today announces that Regal Cinemas L.A. LIVE will host an interactive event in which guests are encouraged to share their reactions while viewing "Sharknado" presented by The Asylum and NCM Fathom Events. Cast and crew members will also attend the midnight show in downtown Los Angeles on Friday night and many of them will be sharing their comments online while Syfy's instant cult classic is on the big screen.
"Usually we ask guests to keep the cell phones off during shows and not to distract others. But for 'Sharknado' half the fun is sharing a reaction, and hearing a riff from someone else," stated Neal Pinsker senior vice president for Regal Entertainment Group. "For this special event at Regal L.A. LIVE, we're setting the usual rules aside to let the audience share and really become part of the entertainment. This 'Sharknado' event will also include some biting comments from the film's cast and crew tweeting their insights live in the same theatre."
The screening will feature brand-new, never-before-seen footage about the making of "Sharknado." Tickets are on sale now for approximately 200 Regal Cinemas, United Artists and Edwards Theatres around the country. Guests at Regal L.A. LIVE will be encouraged to interact on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. During this one-night event, audience members can tweet using a hash tag of #SharknadoRegal or by mentioning @RegalMovies.
"You don't need to learn songs or dance steps like with 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' to be in on the joke. Produced by The Asylum and Syfy, SHARKNADO is the story of beachside bar regulars including owner Fin (Ian Ziering, "Beverly Hills 90210"), bartender Nova (Cassie Scerbo, "Make It Or Break It") and local drunk George (John Heard, "Home Alone") as they team up with Fin's ex-wife April (Tara Reid, "Scrubs") to investigate the ecological nightmare that has sharks swimming through the streets of Los Angeles and falling from the skies. SHARKNADO had its television premiere on Syfy on July 11 and became an instant cultural phenomenon, lighting up Twitter, Facebook, and the blogosphere with rabid discussion and rave reviews. Due to its overwhelming success, Syfy aired the film twice more, on July 18 and 27.
