C&J Energy Services Beats Expectations But Takes A Step Back Anyway
C&J Energy Services (NYS: CJES) reported earnings on July 31. Here are the numbers you need to know.

EPS came in at $0.39. The 10 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ anticipated $0.37 per share. Non-GAAP EPS of $0.39 for Q2 were 61% lower than the prior-year quarter's $1.00 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.38 for Q2 were 62% lower than the prior-year quarter's $0.99 per share.

For the quarter, gross margin was 32.4%, 540 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 13.1%, much worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 7.8%, much worse than the prior-year quarter. (Margins calculated in GAAP terms.)
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $279.2 million. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.36.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $1.11 billion. The average EPS estimate is $1.59.
