Office Depot Meets on the Top Line, Misses Where it Counts
Office Depot (NYS: ODP) reported earnings on July 30. Here are the numbers you need to know.

EPS came in at -$0.10. The 17 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted -$0.09 per share. Non-GAAP EPS were -$0.10 for Q2 versus -$0.14 per share for the prior-year quarter. GAAP EPS of -$0.23 were the same as the prior-year quarter.

For the quarter, gross margin was 22.6%, 720 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was -1.0%, 10 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was -2.2%, 10 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. (Margins calculated in GAAP terms.)
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $2.62 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.07.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $10.35 billion. The average EPS estimate is $0.01.
