RPM International Beats on EPS But GAAP Results Lag
RPM International (NYS: RPM) reported earnings on July 22. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended May 31 (Q4), RPM International met expectations on revenues and beat expectations on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue grew. Non-GAAP earnings per share expanded. GAAP earnings per share dropped significantly.

EPS came in at $0.72. The 11 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ averaged $0.67 per share. Non-GAAP EPS of $0.72 for Q4 were 14% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.63 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.49 for Q4 were 22% lower than the prior-year quarter's $0.63 per share.

For the quarter, gross margin was 42.7%, 90 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 12.5%, much about the same as the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 5.6%, 190 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. (Margins calculated in GAAP terms.)
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $1.16 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.71.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $4.39 billion. The average EPS estimate is $2.03.
