AutoNation Beats on Revenue, Matches Expectations on EPS

AutoNation (NYS: AN) reported earnings on July 18. Here are the numbers you need to know.

EPS came in at $0.73. The 13 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ averaged $0.73 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.73 for Q2 were 14% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.64 per share.

Margin details
For the quarter, gross margin was 15.7%, 40 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 4.1%, 20 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 2.0%, much about the same as the prior-year quarter. (Margins calculated in GAAP terms.)

Looking ahead
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $4.37 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.76.

Next year's average estimate for revenue is $17.33 billion. The average EPS estimate is $2.95.
