L-3 Receives 2013 Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Award

- Ninth Consecutive Year That Company Is Recognized -

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- L-3 Communications (NYS: LLL) announced today that it has received the prestigious James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Award from the U.S. Department of Defense, Defense Security Service (DSS). L-3's Randtron Antenna Systems division was selected as one of only 24 recipients of this year's award, from a field of 13,500 cleared defense contractors.

The Cogswell Award recognizes industrial security excellence and is the highest honor a company can receive in the handling of classified information. This is the ninth consecutive year that L-3 has received a Cogswell Award for outstanding security practices. The company has received 15 awards since 2005.

"National security and the strength of our country's technical leadership require a relentless focus on industrial security, and we are very proud that L-3 continues to be recognized as a leader in this area," said Vincent Jarvie, vice president of corporate security. "Across L-3, our security organization has an enduring commitment to excellence and achieving the highest standards in the industry. My sincere thanks to the men and women of L-3's Security staff for this significant honor."

The Cogswell Award selection process is rigorous, requiring nominated facilities to clearly demonstrate a sustained degree of excellence and innovation in their security program management, implementation and oversight. A national review team is responsible for consolidating and ranking the thoroughly vetted nominees, and DSS makes the final award selections.

Headquartered in New York City, L-3 employs approximately 51,000 people worldwide and is a prime contractor in C3ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) systems, platform and logistics solutions, and national security solutions. L-3 is also a leading provider of a broad range of electronic systems used on military and commercial platforms. The company reported 2012 sales of $13.1 billion.
